escape route

Nick Yici Cheryl Daryl Kristi Bryan and I caught Loving Annabelle today (in my living room). Although incredibly subtle (but still nothing beats the dialogue-less-ness of Brokeback Mountain), I have to say its a very thought-provoking movie. In my opinion anyway, haha and that is not a very expert one.

During the first few moments after the show ended everyone felt something that can only be fully encompassed in the single word, "What?!" (In fact, we all said it after a stunned pause when the credits started rolling.) An ending with no conclusion, without finality and lacking the typical resolution that is present in most movies. But upon further thought (throughout the dinner, my shower - even while shampooing-and the entire evening, mind you), after getting past the initial shock of having watched explicit lesbian sex it really is a very beautiful show with the hint of ... much more to come. And a lot in question.

Don't hate me now, but religious fundamentalism is the bulk of it. Authoritarianism, politics, appearance versus reality, or even perhaps the lack of caring environment (parental love and care!), forbidden love (tension! lust! sex! and er, long knowing gazes) and eventually the big big BIG ethical question mark begging the divide between what is right and what is wrong.

When... I think there really isnt one. Even though some might believe there is such a thing as a line to cross over. But I don't think so.

Only much later do I finally get to holistically reflect upon the topics it touches on and only after much deliberation do I finally get to appreciate the almost-inconspicuous, quiet questions that this movie is asking.

Ah, paragraphs of crap. But if I've caught your interest, do go and rent it ASAP. I recommend!
